Dump the fad diets; just eat right and exercise

By Kelvin Thomas, Studio 373 | Nov 16, 2017

Do you know someone who has been on the latest fad diet, and then as soon as the diet is stopped, the weight comes back?

If you’re like most people, this method to lose or control weight has affected you, too.  You are being bombarded daily with misinformation about healthy eating and diet, and you’re willing to try the latest fad because it’s going to work this time.  Right?

My hope is that you will give the ideas presented here a chance, and consider a different approach to overall health and well-being.  The following practices are ones I’ve tried personally, and have shared with clients and friends.

And guess what?  I along with my clients and friends have had success using them. You, too, can get off the diet treadmill and live a life free of fads and passing trends and, more importantly, have a healthier outlook and strategy about your weight.

Acceptance

“You are the culmination of your habits.”

Your daily habits are the things you do without even thinking about it.  Habits define who you are, how long you live, and how you look. The following riddle sums up the importance of habits, perfectly.

I am your constant companion; I am your greatest helper or heaviest burden.

I will push you onward or drag you down to failure; I am completely at your command.  Half the things you do you might as well turn them over to me and I will be able to do them quickly and correctly.

I am easily managed, but you must be merely firm with me. Show me exactly how you want something done, and after a few lessons I will do it automatically.

I am the servant of all great men and the last of all failures as well. Those who are great I have made great, those who are failures, I have made failures. I am not a machine, although I work with the precision of a machine plus the intelligence of a man.

You may run me for profit or you may run me for ruin – it makes no difference to me. Take me, train me, be firm with me, and I will put the world at your feet.  Be easy with me and I will destroy you.

What am I?  I am a habit!

If you want the things in your life to change, you have to change them. You can change your approach to diet and exercise one day at a time. Think about progress, not perfection.

If you don’t make time for exercise, you will make time for illness!

Want to feel better?

Want to have more energy and perhaps even live longer?

You must move your body.

You don't need to set aside large chunks of time for exercise to reap the benefits. You can get a great workout in 10 minutes if that is all the time you have. Most of my workouts are between 15-20 minutes long.

Be impeccable with your word … make a commitment to yourself to improve your health and keep it.

Physical activity stimulates various brain chemicals that may leave you feeling happier and more relaxed. You will also feel better about your appearance and yourself when you exercise regularly.  You’ll get a natural boost to confidence and improve your self-esteem.  And you will have more energy to go about your daily activities.

Alkaline foods promote healing

To restore health and what you should strive for is a diet consisting of 80 percent alkaline-forming foods and 20 percent acid-forming foods.

To maintain health, the diet should consist of 60 percent alkaline-forming foods and 40 percent acid-forming foods.

Generally, alkaline-forming foods include: most fruits, green vegetables, peas, beans, lentils, spices, herbs and seasonings, and seeds and nuts.

Food is Energy.  Just like gasoline provides the fuel for your car to run, food does the same for your body.  If you own a high-performance automobile, you wouldn’t skimp on the type of fuel that you put in the tank, you’d use the best.  Treat your body like a Porsche.  Not a Yugo.

Watch how much you eat. Digestion is one of the body’s most energy consuming processes, and when you eat more it takes more energy away from calorie burning.

Try not to eat late at night right.  Allow 2-3 hours to digest before going to bed.  Otherwise, your body is working all night to break down the food, and you will likely wake up tired.

If you are consistent with the practices mentioned here, you will never have to diet or get in shape for the next big event. It will become your way of life, and you will become the best version of your healthy self.

As an early holiday gift to you, we are hosting a sugar-free Facebook challenge beginning Nov. 24 to help you get your eating under control now.

Please contact us at https://www.facebook.com/groups/Studio373Grapevine/ and request to join the group. I look forward to seeing you there.
