The national search firm Peckham & McKenney has been selected to recruit and interview candidates to fill the vacant City Manager position. Members of the City Council approved the contract with the firm at its meeting on Feb. 27.

The California-based search firm has managed more than 100 city manager recruitments in a wide range of communities, including work in Washington since 2005. The firm was recently used to hire department heads for the cities of Bothell and Bellevue.

Peckham & McKenney agreed to provide an 18-month placement guarantee on the candidate selected. The contract calls for the city to pay the search firm $25,000 for its services.

The actual search process began earlier this month when recruiter Drew Gorgey met individually with members of the council to identify specific traits and leadership characteristics of successful candidates. He also solicited input from members of the staff in City Hall.

The firm is expected to create a candidate profile and initiate the recruitment before the end of the year.

The tentative recruitment timeline calls for the recruitment period to end by Fab. 18, setting the stage for interviews and recommendations to the Council at its meeting on March 12. According to the schedule outlined by Gorgey, final interviews will be held March 22 and 23, with selection of a preferred applicant prior to the council meeting on March 29.
