Glacier Peak senior Riley Fidler will be joined by a familiar face at this year’s state swimming championships.

Freshman Macy Fidler, Riley’s younger sister, already has recorded a state cut in the 100-yard butterfly and was a part of the 200 medley relay that has qualified for state.

Riley, who earned three medals (two individual, one relay) at the 2017 4A state meet, has state cuts in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly, in addition to being a part of the relay.

Riley finished eighth in the 50 freestyle and placed ninth in the 100 butterfly at state last year.

“She’s an incredible talent,” Glacier Peak coach John Neff said. “Both of them are good butterfliers.”

The other two members of the medley relay are junior Emily Hoopes and freshman Alanna Keegan. The Grizzlies’ 200 medley relay recorded its state cut at the first meet of the season.

Hoopes is one of the team’s top sprinters and should be a strong postseason contender, Neff added. She has district times in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles, while Keegan has district cuts in the 50 and 100 freestyles.

Twelve other swimmers and divers have qualified for the district meet.

They include Katelyn Anderson (100 breaststroke), Paula Cortes (100 breaststroke), Eden Iazeolla (diving) Britney Jacobsen (diving), Ryzele Lagdaan (diving), Kaitlin Ringwood (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 100 backstroke), Allison Smith (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle), Rida Soeung (100 backstroke 200 individual medley), Hannah Taylor (100 freestyle, 200 freestyle), Lu-Lu Vanwinkle (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke), Brianna Johnson (100 backstroke) and Eliana Wejak (100 breaststroke). Lagdaan placed 10th at last year’s state meet.

WILDCATS NUMBERS UP: The numbers for Archbishop Murphy’s girls swim team are increasing. The Wildcats have 10 swimmers out, up from seven. Freshman Madison Karnikis has qualified for districts in six events. “We’re trying to get her qualified for all eight,” Archbishop Murphy coach Erin Edmondson said. “She’s very versatile.”

Sophomore Lydia Mikhail has a district cut in the 100 butterfly and senior Caitlyn Tran has a district time in the 100 breaststroke.
