Grizzlies shut out by Bearcats | Football

The Glacier Peak football team has moved on from last week’s 57-0 loss to Monroe.

The Grizzlies actually had no choice since they host defending Wesco 4A champion Lake Stevens on Friday, Oct. 6, at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

“The kids are extremely dialed in and focused,” Glacier Peak coach Nick Bender said. “The kids are reacting in the proper way.”

Bender told his players that they needed to get back to the basics – blocking, tackling and the physical nature of the game – things that were lacking in the loss to the Bearcats, Friday, Sept. 29, at Monroe High School.

The Grizzlies also seemed to rebound better when facing adversity two weeks ago in a win over Jackson.

“We didn’t rebound as quickly against Monroe,” Bender said. “We have to get back to the playing football the way we know we are able to.”

Glacier Peak (2-1 in the league, 3-2 overall) currently are in third place in the league behind Monroe (3-0, 5-0) and Lake Stevens (3-0, 4-1). Four teams – Mariner, Jackson, Mount Vernon and Cascade – are tied for fourth place with 1-2 records.

The Grizzlies have beaten Cascade and Jackson. The top four teams advance to the playoffs.

“The dream is still attainable,” Bender said. “We just have to finish out the season strong.”
