Lynden rallies to beat Archbishop Murphy | Football

Archbishop Murphy could not hold on to an 11-point third quarter lead against Lynden.

The Lions scored two unanswered touchdowns in the fourth quarter to pull out a 24-21 victory in the Northwest 2A Sky Conference football opener for both teams Friday, Sept. 21, at Lynden High School.

Lion quarterback Brock Heppner scored on a 4-yard run to cut the Wildcats lead to 21-17 and then threw a 15-yard pass to Kobe Elsner for the go-ahead touchdown in the final period.

Archbishop Murphy running back Mason Mathis rushed for 157 yards on 32 carries and scored on a 1-yard run in the first quarter. Quarterback Victor Gabalis completed 4 of 6 passes for 90 yards, including a 38-yard touchdown to Dillon Singh Halpin in the second quarter. Halpin caught four passes for 90 yards. Teammate Joshua McCarron also returned a fumble for a touchdown to give the Wildcats (0-1 in the league, 1-2 overall) a 21-10 halftime lead.
