More than a run-of-the-mill race

Over 500 athletes participated in this year’s Run of the Mill 5k race in Mill Creek on Saturday, June 30.

James Mwaura won the race with a time of 14 minutes 58 seconds and Katie Diekema was the top female finisher with a time of 18:21. The race began and ended on Main Street inside the Mill Creek Town Center.

The 33rd showing of the Run of the Mill race anticipates raising $15,000 for local charities including the cross-country teams of Glacier Peak, Lake Stevens, Mariner and Jackson High Schools, as well as the track team at Jackson.

Additional charities receiving donations are the Northwest Aquatics Swim Club, the Mill Creek Kiwanis Club, Providence Hospital’s Linda Baltzell Cancer Patient Assistance Fund, the Washington State Cross Country Coaches Association and the Mill Creek Food Bank.

This year’s event was sponsored and Organized by Columbia Mortgage Funding and Steve Knox, a senior mortgage professional.
