Real estate couple team up, provide twice the expertise

Nate and Sydney Saban focus on honesty, clarity, integrity

For many people, buying or selling a home is a rare event – perhaps just once or twice in a lifetime. Consequently, they’re not only looking for a real estate agent who can handle the details, but someone with whom they can have a relationship – someone they’re comfortable with, someone they can trust.

Nate and Sydney Saban are looking for the same thing in a client. Working as a team at Windermere Real Estate’s South Everett office, the Sabans know that real estate transactions can be scary and complicated; consequently, they focus on bringing their clients clarity, honesty and integrity throughout the process.

For the Mukilteo couple, that goal is made easier because their separate life journeys gave them unique interests and skills that complement each other while giving clients the benefits of both.

Nate, for example, a Washington native who attended Kamiak High and graduated from Seattle Pacific University, spent 10 years in the construction industry, rebuilding, remodeling and, often, working with real estate agents in the process. He especially loved the remodeling and interior design aspects of the work, he said.

Seeing both the construction and real estate aspects of those projects, he realized he was well situated with his skill set to move fully into the real estate side of the industry.

“For me, this isn’t just a job,” he said. “This is all I’ve known and, essentially, what I’ve always wanted to do. It’s my passion.”

Sydney, on the other hand, spent her early professional years developing skills in connecting with people from all walks of life. A Snohomish native who also graduated from SPU, she started her professional career teaching French and English as a Second Language.

She later accepted a teaching position in Moscow, Russia, where she became fluent in that country’s language. Later, working as a translater, and speaking at various culture seminars, she developed a passion for helping people thrive.

After the couple married in 2016, they began to realize their complementary abilities were ideal for working in real estate together.

“My capability of connecting with people from many different backgrounds, along with my expertise in education, provides my clients with full confidence and clarity throughout the purchase and sale process,” Sydney said.

She particularly enjoys working on real estate transactions in new construction, so partnering with Nate, who loves dealing with older homes that might need remodeling or other work, has been “refreshing,” she said.

Noting that the challenges of the current market can make buying or selling a home a long-term process, she said, “We really want to build relationships over the long term. We want to make sure you’re taken care of.”

For example, baby boomers are reaching retirement age at the rate of 10,000 per day. Many of them are looking to downsize, but don’t necessarily want to move out of the area. At the same time, members of the millennial generation are looking for that first home in a market where prices are climbing and inventory is low.

The Sabans enjoy looking for answers on both sides of the transaction.

“We look for solutions,” Nate said. “What area would you like to move to? What kind of house are you looking for?

“We’re looking to exercise every option to help you find what you want.”

The Sabans have worked with clients who previously were led to believe they couldn’t have what they wanted – the kind of home they sought was out of their price range, or they had little hope of buying a home because they were up against multiple offers.

Through patience and perseverance, the Sabans have proved otherwise by keeping their clients informed, and watching for every opportunity until that perfect one arrives.

“I relish that clients trust me,” Sydney said.

They’re happy to have teamed up with Windermere, which likewise strives to provide professional service to its agents and clients alike.

“We were drawn to Windermere because they provide lots of education, and lots of valuable information,” Sydney said. The couple keeps up on the ever-changing industry through constantly educating themselves.

Having recently moved into a view home in Mukilteo’s Old Town neighborhood, they’re excited to be a part of the community. They’re both athletic, play basketball at the Mukilteo Family YMCA, run, do hot yoga and other activities.

“We love Mukilteo,” Nate said. “This is where we want to be, to put down our roots.” Those roots will be sinking deeper in a few months when they’ll welcome their first child to the world.
