Seniors lead Jackson team to Top 10 finish

The Mock Trail team from Jackson High took a moment to enjoy their Top 10 finish at the state finals last month. Seniors Steven Dean and Patrick Follis both received “Best Lawyer” recognition in the Washington State Mock Trial Competition.

Overall, the young barristers from Jackson High finished among the Top 10 teams in the statewide competition. A total of 24 teams qualified to compete at the finals in Olympia last month.

In addition to its strong showing in the mock trials, the team from Jackson received the coveted William L. Downing Core Values Award for displaying YMCA Mock Trial values including honesty, sportsmanship and leadership, according to faculty advisor Jim Lockman.

Senior Hannah Ouijdani and juniors Rumi Gilani and Jessica Ramos received “Best Witness” recognition. This was only the second time the team had qualified for the finals since the club was formed in 2011.

Mill Creek attorney Jack Follis coached the team from Jackson.
