The Beacon welcomes new editor

Sep 06, 2019

Madeline Coats, 22, is the newest editor and reporter for the Mill Creek Beacon.

Coats graduated from the University of Washington this past June. She has degrees in journalism and creative writing, as well as a certificate in leadership.

The teams newest addition grew up in Sammamish and first began designing newspapers and editing stories as a senior in high school. As a sophomore at the University of Washington, Coats became the Editor-in-Chief of a publication on campus called the Odyssey.

During the 2019 Legislative Session, Coats reported on government happenings for the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association (WNPA) in Olympia. Her passion for journalism was heightened after being exposed to politics at the Capitol.

Coats enjoys playing pickleball, watching police shows on Netflix, and traveling as much as possible. She is left handed, overly competitive, and always carries her notebook everywhere.
